Terms of Service

Last updated: July 14, 2026

Welcome to Cairn. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Cairn, a prayer and scripture app (“Cairn,” “we,” “us”) operated from Michigan, United States. By tapping Begin, creating an account, or using Cairn, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Who can use Cairn

Cairn is intended for personal, devotional use by people age 13 and older. If you are under 18, you may use Cairn only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian, and your parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf. By using Cairn, you confirm you meet these requirements.

If information you give us (such as your birth year) shows you are under 13, we restrict the community and chat features, which are designed for ages 13 and up. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has been using Cairn, contact us at support@cairnprayer.com and we will delete the child's information.

Using Cairn

You agree to use Cairn lawfully and respectfully. You agree not to misuse the service, including by attempting to disrupt or break it, bypass security, safety, or age measures, access it through automated means, reverse engineer it, use another person's account without permission, or use it to harm others or yourself.

The AI companion

Cairn includes an optional chat companion. The companion is artificial intelligence, not a human being. It is labeled as AI in the app, and during long sessions the app reminds you of this and suggests a break. Its replies are generated by AI (using Google's Gemini service) and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or imperfect, even when they sound confident.

The companion is meant to support reflection, prayer, and learning. It is not a pastor, counselor, therapist, doctor, or lawyer; it is not a substitute for pastoral, medical, mental-health, legal, or other professional advice; and it is not a crisis service. Please use discernment, and bring important spiritual or personal questions to a trusted person, pastor, or professional.

Scripture quoted by the companion is drawn only from a reviewed list of verbatim public-domain verses, and Cairn automatically removes scripture references the AI invents. If a message suggests someone may be in crisis, Cairn does not send it to the AI at all; it responds directly with crisis resources instead (see the next section). The chat companion requires you to be at least 13 years old.

If you are in crisis

Cairn is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please reach out to real help right now. In the US, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7, or visit 988lifeline.org. If you are outside the US, findahelpline.com can connect you to support. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

Your content

Your prayers, journal entries, saved verses, and messages are yours. You keep ownership of what you write. You give us only the limited, non-exclusive permission needed to operate Cairn, for example, to store your journal and show it back to you, and to send your companion messages to our AI provider so a response can be generated for you.

We do not use your prayers, journal entries, or chat messages to train or fine-tune AI models. We use AI only to generate responses to you in the moment, not to build or improve models from your private content.

One part of Cairn is different: the community prayer wall. Anything you choose to post or reply there is public to other Cairn users, not private. Please treat it that way, and see the section below before posting.

Community prayer wall

The prayer wall lets you share prayer requests and pray for others. It is a community space, and to keep it safe and reverent, you agree to the following.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the prayer wall. We ask your birth year the first time you open it, and access is limited to users 13 and older.

When you post or reply, you agree not to share content that is hateful, harassing, threatening, sexual, spam, unlawful, or infringing on anyone's rights (including copyright), and not to share other people's private information or your own sensitive personal details (such as your full name, address, phone number, or email). Posts are public, so never share anything you would not want others to see.

Posts and replies belong to, and speak for, the people who write them, not for Cairn. We do not endorse user content. You keep ownership of what you post, and you give us the limited permission needed to display it to other users, moderate it, and operate the wall. We use automated checks and human moderation, and we may hide or remove posts, and suspend access to the wall or the app, to protect the community or comply with the law. You can report posts that concern you, and you can delete your own posts.

The wall is not a crisis service. If you or someone else is in danger, please use the crisis resources above rather than the wall.

Copyright complaints

We respect copyright and expect users to do the same. If you believe content on Cairn infringes your copyright, email support@cairnprayer.com with the location of the content, a description of the work you believe is infringed, your contact information, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized. We will review and remove infringing content, and we may end access for repeat infringers.

Subscriptions & trials

Cairn offers an optional paid subscription (Cairn+), billed monthly or yearly. The price and billing period are shown before you subscribe. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price shown, until you cancel. Yearly plans may include a free trial; if you do not cancel before the trial ends, the paid subscription begins automatically.

You can cancel anytime, in the app under Settings, using “Manage or cancel subscription” (which opens our payment processor's secure portal), or by emailing support@cairnprayer.com. Cancellation stops future charges and takes effect at the end of the current billing period; it does not retroactively refund the current period unless the law where you live requires it.

If prices change, we will give you notice before the new price takes effect, and you can cancel before it does. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.

Scripture & content

Scripture in Cairn is drawn from the King James Version, a public-domain translation. Reflections, prayers, and reading plans are provided to support your devotional life and are not a substitute for pastoral, medical, or professional counsel. Cairn's own content, design, and code are protected by intellectual property laws and remain ours.

Disclaimers

Cairn is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any content or AI response will be accurate or reliable. You use Cairn at your own discretion and risk. Some places do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cairn and the people behind it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the app. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to Cairn will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars ($100), whichever is greater. Some places do not allow certain limitations of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Your responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, you agree that if your violation of these Terms or your unlawful use of Cairn causes a claim against us, you will be responsible for the costs and damages that your violation caused. This does not apply to claims arising from our own conduct.

Ending your access

You may stop using Cairn at any time, and you can delete your account in Settings. Deletion is scheduled with a 30-day waiting period: nothing changes until it passes, you can cancel anytime during it, and after it your account and data are permanently deleted and any subscription is canceled. If an account was banned from the community wall, we may retain a one-way fingerprint of its sign-in email after deletion, solely so the ban cannot be evaded by creating a new account. We may suspend or end access to Cairn if you violate these Terms, if needed to protect users or the service, or to comply with the law. We may also change or discontinue features or the service; if we ever discontinue Cairn+ while you have paid time remaining, we will refund the unused portion.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app before the changes take effect. Continuing to use Cairn after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Michigan, unless applicable law gives you the right to a different venue. We will always try to resolve concerns informally first, so please contact us at support@cairnprayer.com before taking any formal action, and we will do our best to make it right.

General

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we do not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may assign ours as part of a reorganization or sale of Cairn, with the same commitments to you. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about Cairn.

Sections that by their nature should continue after your access ends, including Your content, Disclaimers, Limitation of liability, Your responsibility, and Governing law & disputes, survive the end of these Terms. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages of the internet or our providers, or natural disasters. We may give you notices in the app or, if you linked an email, by email; you can always reach us at support@cairnprayer.com.
